Office Automation for Smart Workspaces

How automation transforms meeting rooms, workspaces and common areas in offices and companies across Ecuador with Control4.

Office Automation for Smart Workspaces

Technology in the workplace has stopped being an image differentiator and become an operational requirement. Modern offices can’t afford projectors that won’t connect, damaged HDMI cables, meeting rooms with three different remotes or lighting systems nobody knows how to configure.

At DomuLab we design corporate spaces where technology works predictably, integrated and easy to use — for any employee, not just the technical team.

Automated meeting rooms

The experience of a well-automated meeting room begins before the meeting starts. When you press “Meeting” on the room’s control panel:

  • The motorized screen lowers from the ceiling or the display turns on
  • The projector or display selects the correct source (video conference, local presentation, screen share)
  • The blinds close to the right level for screen visibility without total darkness
  • The lighting adjusts to a work preset (neither too bright nor too dark)
  • The audio system activates the room’s microphones and speakers
  • The air conditioning adjusts to the working temperature

When it’s over, “End meeting” reverses everything, shuts down the equipment in the correct order (avoiding failures from abruptly powering off projectors) and leaves the room ready for the next use.

Corporate access control

Physical credentials — keys, magnetic cards — are the weakest link in corporate security: they get lost, they get copied, there’s no record of use. Smart access-control systems solve this:

  • High-security RFID cards or tags: a format that can’t be copied on consumer equipment
  • Mobile credentials: the employee’s phone works as a credential via Bluetooth or NFC
  • Temporary codes: for visitors, suppliers or contractors with access limited by date and time
  • Biometrics: fingerprint or facial recognition for restricted-access areas (servers, storage, management)

All with a complete audit trail: who entered, at what time, through which door. Accessible from the administration panel for the security team or HR.

Energy management: the savings that justify the investment

Offices have an invisible energy problem: equipment left on in empty rooms, lighting at full power in low-activity areas, air conditioners running on weekends because nobody turned them off when leaving on Friday.

A corporate automation system can:

  • Turn off lights and climate control automatically when a room is empty for more than 15 minutes
  • Reduce climate control to a minimum outside working hours (scheduled standby mode)
  • Monitor consumption by zone to identify inefficiencies
  • Activate or deactivate entire areas from an app when there are days without activity

In medium-sized projects (300–1000 m²), the savings in electricity consumption can recover the automation investment in 18 to 36 months.

Professional audio and video conferencing

Modern video-conferencing rooms must work frictionlessly with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet and any platform your client or partner uses. This requires:

  • Conference microphone with echo cancellation and room-noise suppression
  • Room camera with automatic speaker tracking
  • Soundbar or room speakers calibrated for the meeting volume
  • Centralized control: a panel or tablet that handles everything without the user having to know which source to select

We integrate solutions from Crestron, Poly, Shure and Biamp for high-demand meeting rooms, coordinated with the overall automation system of the space.

Digital signage and smart reception

Reception is the first impression of any company. A well-integrated digital signage system can display a welcome message to the visitor, the company directory, room-availability information or corporate content — all managed from a centralized platform and updated in real time.

Integrated with the access-control system, reception can automatically verify the visitor’s appointment, generate their temporary credential and notify the host of their arrival, all without manual intervention.
